Head of the Department: Sergey MASALOV, Doctor of Sciences (Physics and Mathematics), Professor. Twice, Dr.Masalov has won the State Prize in the field of Science and Technology. The department was established in 1986 for the investigation of electromagnetic imaging, (radio-wave imaging) within opaque media, and for the development of short distance radar. Two main areas of research were selected: Traditional for the Institute Microwave Radiolocation and "State of the Art" Ultra Wide Band / Short Pulse (UWB/SP) Radiolocation. UWB/SP radiolocation is a relatively new, but expanding field of science and technology. Mostly UWB/SP radars are used for ground subsurface sounding. At present, this is the most promising application area for UWB/SP System. The key problem restricting radar capabilities of UWB/SP systems is lack of ultra wide band antenna systems, which are able to radiate and receive short pulse electromagnetic waves with high efficiency and without shape distortions. In addition, it will be necessary to develop corresponding algorithms, software for radar data processing and sounding results visualization to obtain a complete solution. Our investigation are intended to develop and improve the key devices for the UWB/SP Systems and relevant data processing algorithms. The main current activities are: «Multi-element radiating-receiving antenna for a ground penetrating radar» The goals of this project are:
Offering of the new antenna system into the market of modern subsurface radio location technologies. «The equipment development and measuring of the electrical characteristics of natural and artificial media in the impulse electromagnetic field of the duration range from 10ns to 0.07ns» The goals of this project are:
We are wide open for any kind of an international collaboration in fields covered by these projects. |
