Kommunar Production Amalgamation, or Kommunar, is a large Ukrainian defense manufacturer that is in the process of converting from defense products to consumer goods. It was originally created to design and supervise the manufacture of monitoring and control systems for satellite launchers and space exploration apparatus. As a result, it has a great many design and manufacturing capabilities, as well as products, which may be of interest to an American firm.
Kommunar has a wide range of production capabilities, including:
- Metal working
- Punching and forge and pressing
- Welding
- Casting
- Plastics processing
- Thin film micro-assemblies
- Single and multi-layer printed circuit boards manufacture
- Electroplating, varnishing, painting
Consumer product lines include:
- TV sets
- Welding equipment
- Electronic electric power meters
- Communication equipment
- Video-monitors
- Medical Diagnostic Equipment
- Turbine control systems, diesel control stations and power-saving systems
- Software products
Kommunar is currently looking for joint venture partners to take advantage of these capabilities. A more detailed description of their operation and capabilities is available.
One point of particular note is that Kommunar has experience working with international firms. It currently has a joint venture with the French company Alcatel, which is successfully manufacturing equipment for telephone stations and switchboards which are being used both in France and abroad. Besides, as a former defense company, it may be eligible for the Nunn-Lugar funds which can be awarded to a JV between Kommunar and a US partner if the JV meets certain requirements.
