Pervkhinskiy Sugar Plant |
Providing sugar products |
This is a large old sugar plant that was reconstructed after the second world war. In 1997 they produced 1,200 tons of sugar per day while in 1991 they produced 3,000 tons per day. The plant operates only 70 days per year. Their biggest problem is a shortage of sugar beets. This is due to bad crops and poor weather. In addition, the farmers lack the machinery to make beet farming profitable. Marketing is a problem for the company so most of the output is distributed in barter arrangements. During the season (September, October and November) they employ 220, of which 162 are in production. In the off season they employ 110. The employees are paid partly in cash and partly in bartered goods. |
