This is an old company that has been in business for more than 100 years. However, the equipment is relatively new, having been installed within the past 10 years. The plant processes sugar beet but operates only about 50 days per year. The director states that, when operating, the plant operates at 41% of capacity as opposed to 12% for his competition. One of the problems faces by the industry is that the farmers yields are down by 50%, due to a lack of fertilizers, herbicides, etc. The product is sold in bulk or packaged into 50 kg. (110 lb.) bags. The products are mainly exchanged in barter agreements.
