This plant has been in business for 20 years and is 100% owned by the employees. It currently employs 316. The output of the plant in 1994 was 73,000 tons of cheese. By 1997 this had declined 65% to 26,000 tons. The production capacity is 4.6 tons per shift. The enterprise has had the status of an open joint-stock company since 1995.
The company has recently signed an agreement with a Belgian company to provide them with powdered cheese. As a result, new equipment has been added and the company is in a position to provide cheese at very competitive prices. The company is currently looking new technologies, raw materials and investments ($500,000 investment, $1,050,000 loan). They also want to develop technologies and equipment for collecting and cooling up to 30,000 tons of milk a year from farmers. The additional non-dairy raw products are planned:
