Manufacturing the FEP High-Efficient Filtering Elements

Universal high-effective filtering elements of the FEP type are meant to clean drinking and mineral water, food products, medicinal preparations, biological mediums, hydrocarbonaceous fuel from mechanical impurities and gases (including corrosive ones). The fluids are pumped under a certain pressure through filtering devices, incorporated into the corresponding systems.

The filtering elements of the FEP type are high-porous products of different forms - a cylinder, a disk, a washer, a cup, etc. - and standard sizes, with bulk porosity 65-75%. They ensure fineness of cleaning up to 0.5 mm, and cleaning efficiency up to 99.9%. They guarantee, in particular, 100% separation of water from diesel fuel and can work under temperatures from 4°K till 523°K.  The elements do not absorb, nor filter, the additives to oils with the size of particles that meet the requirements of the State system of standards.

The filters may be regenerated 20-30 times. They diminish the initial pressure friction loss down to 50%, economizing thereby the power consumption. The elements are very light, durable and vibration-proof. They cannot be destroyed or washed away by working fluids. The FEP elements are easily adapted to streamlined production methods and simple to install.

Their resistance to attack by corrosive media is higher than that of noble metals. The elements may be sterilized by any known methods. They are allowed for use in food industry.

The FEP elements are produced in the following sequence of operations: a finely divided polymer powder (polytetrafluorethylene) is thoroughly intermixed in a certain proportion with the powder of a solid blowing agent. The finely divided mixture of the polymer and blowing agent is compacted (preformed) under a certain unit area pressure in a mould according to the size of the filtering element. The resultant intermediate product is exposed to heat, after which it is processed in solvents to remove the blowing agent and dried.
