St Petersburg-Moscow Rapid Transit Project Questioned

President of Russian Federation in his decree of 1 July 1998 recognized as invalid the Presidential Decree 120 of 13 September 1991 "On laying a rapid transit system between St Petersburg and Moscow" and Clauses 2 and 3 of Presidential Decree of 17 July 1992 "On construction of a rapid transit system between St Petersburg and Moscow and starting production of electrical rolling stock." The President probably changed his mind as a result of environmentalists' aggressive actions, although the project is clearly not feasible under the current economic conditions.
