Energy Management engineers are to be trained at the State Metallurgical Academy of Ukraine, already Alma Mater to 2,500 professionals in Industrial Heat Engineering. They will get extensive courses in energy conservation economics, costs management, utilities management, economic risk assessment, selection of effective measures for energy conservation etc. Under the current scarce supply of energy, Ukraine needs abolishment of wasteful technologies and equipment and constant, resolute and competent actions to conserve all types of energy. New and oftentimes unconventional solutions are to be sought to minimize energy consumption against the prevailing economic, social and environmental background. This will require power engineering professionals of a new type that not only possess substantial engineering knowledge and skills but also are capable of applying systems approach to consumers and generators of energy at all levels. Such professionals must know the basics and practices of power management, have organizing skills to work with employee teams for maximum energy conservation at minimum costs, be versed in economics well enough to use economic levers for control over power consumption.
